An up market Australian dining space, offering a menu that is brimming with fresh seasonal produce sourced from all over Australia, the emphasis at the aptly named Seasons Mildura is “seasonality.” Also, true to Slow Food principles, we believe the enjoyment of dining should be one of conviviality and friendship, a concept that is often left in the wake of our busy lifestyles.
In addition to the abundant, delicious choice from the a la carte menu and the daily blackboard specials, Seasons Mildura also offers a “Slow Food banquet” option, where our crew will suggest a selection of dishes reflecting the best seasonal fare on offer, along with matching wines for each course.
Slow Food is a growing concept that is not so much sweeping the nation as taking a leisurely stroll from region to region. Slow Food is a concept linking ethics, pleasure, ecology and gastronomy. Founded in Italy, supporters of the concept are now found across the globe, including the heart of Mildura. Restaurateurs Andy & Mandy Williams, owners of Seasons Mildura, have brought their passion for the concept from Noosa, Queensland, where the movement has seen rapid growth in the last few years.
The Slow Food mantra is a key to Andy & Mandy’s menu development philosophy, as are their unusual methods for sourcing the raw ingredients for their tantalizing dishes. Slow Food is not just about offering an alternative to “fast food,” it is about local seasonal produce, restoring time-honoured methods of production and preparation, and sharing food. Slow Food encourages environmentally sustainable production, ethical treatment of animals and social justice.
Among the more unique methods employed by the Seasons Mildura team in ensuring the best quality produce is served are the regular shopping expeditions to the local growers. Mandy explains, “It’s a way to support local producers, but more importantly to educate the diners about what is grown here and how they too can go direct to the farm gate. We would like our customers to understand that the same people who own the place, run and nurture the place, are the same people you see each time you visit – and that applies as much to our restaurants as it does to the farm gate experience”.
